There are times in life when you arrive at a T-Junction and, you have to make a life-changing decision to go left or right. In these moments, the growing Christian earnestly seeks God’s will through prayer, counsel, and the Scriptures.

But what involvement does God have in the regular monotony of everyday life?

Psalm 23:2-3
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

The imagery is of God as a shepherd, leading his sheep. A shepherd takes every initiative to determine where the best pastures and watering places are located and guides his flock as he thinks best. As our Shepherd, God has committed Himself to guide us in the ways that He knows are best. God guides us so that as we live out each day, He leads us to fulfill the purpose and plan that He ordained for us.

There is an example of this in the life of Paul (Read Acts 16). As Paul pushed forward to preach the gospel, twice he was stopped by the Holy Spirit and finally guided to Macedonia.

God guides our minds as we think. We have a responsibility to make wise decisions, but God’s plan and daily guidance are not governed by those decisions. God’s plan is sovereign, and His guidance flows from His love and power. God is always taking the initiative to guide us. His omniscience (meaning that He is all-knowing) assures us that He knows where He is taking us, and that His way is best.

The way God guides us is limitless. God guides all the details of our life, all the time. This guidance is almost always just one step at a time. Rarely does God show us all of his plans at once. He asks us to trust Him and obey His word moment-by-moment.

Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.

Fanny Crosby was a blind poet and hymn-writer who lived in the 1800s. She wrote over 8000 hymns and gospel songs. Let me leave you today with lyrics she wrote for the song, “All The Way My Savior Leads Me.”

All the way my Savior leads me
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my Guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.

All the way my Savior leads me,
Oh, the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way;
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way.

You can trust God to guide you today. He will lead you all the way!
