📖 Word For The Day: Trusting God For Who You Are

People often struggle to accept themselves as they are. None of us have it all together! If you are like me, if given a chance, there are things about yourself, you would change – your appearance, your abilities, your temperament, or emotional makeup.

God calls us to recognize His hand and trust Him for who we are.

Psalm 139:13-16
13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.

From this text, we learn that God created our physical bodies, fashioning us with the physical characteristics we possess. For me, that includes being male, nearly bald, and having poor eyesight.
But it also means that God crafted my inner being as well (v13). He created and gave me my personality, emotional makeup, and moral sensitivities. God hard-wired me to see what things can become, lead others toward that desired end, and be mostly optimistic.

Now get this! God PERSONALLY crafted you! You are the result of the intentional, personal, careful, and attentive action of the Creator! Your personality, sex, height, and features are the way they are because God made them precisely that way!

Job 10:8a,10-12
8 “‘ You formed me with your hands; you made me…
10 You guided my conception
and formed me in the womb.
11 You clothed me with skin and flesh,
and you knit my bones and ligaments together.
12 You gave me life and showed me your unfailing love.
My life was preserved by your care.

So here is the application for us today. If I have difficulty accepting myself the way God made me, then my problem is with God Himself! To the degree that sin distorts God’s original plan, we need to seek change through the Holy Spirit’s power. Still, we must accept ourselves as God created us in our basic physical, mental, and emotional makeup.
Instead of fretting over the way God made you rejoice this morning with the Psalmist, David:

Psalm. 139:14
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made!

God made you just the way you are, because He loves you and because He wants to glorify Himself through you! This truth is the Christian’s foundation for self-acceptance. I am who I am because God sovereignly and directly created me to be who I am!

Trust God for who you are and get out there and glorify Him today!
